What is Butane?
Butane is a colorless, odorless gas that belongs to the hydrocarbon family. It is an alkane with four carbon atoms and is often used as a fuel in portable gas cylinders , such as those used for camping stoves, gas torches, and therefore also in butane lighters .
Butane is extracted from petroleum and natural gas. It is a highly flammable substance and has a wide range of uses, not only as a fuel, but also as an aerosol propellant for products such as hairspray, deodorant and insecticides.
