Current situation

What is visco fuse?
As briefly described above, visco fuse is the piece of (green) fuse attached to the (consumer) fireworks. Also known as the ignition fuse. The fuse is almost always green in color but can also be red. The fuse has a burn rate of 1 centimeter per second.
Visco fuse is sometimes also referred to by the subnames: safety fuse or delay fuse. However, these are not official terms and lengthening fireworks fuse is not necessarily safer.
Is it allowed to sell visco fuse online?
Visco fuse may not be sold to consumers and may not be sent or received by mail. This makes online selling of visco fuse illegal. Since the end of 2022, the police have also been actively searching for buyers and sellers of the green visco fuse.
From October 17, 2016, a new fireworks decree came into effect, which describes the following:
Article 4 fireworks
1 - It is forbidden to offer pyrotechnic articles belonging to category P1 to the general public, except when pyrotechnic articles for vehicles are installed in a vehicle or in a removable vehicle part.
2 - It is forbidden to sell or otherwise provide pyrotechnic articles belonging to category P1 to consumers under 18 years of age.
Furthermore, selling or buying visco fuse is prohibited if it is done to individuals who do not have official papers with pyrotechnics as their profession.
Conclusion on rules about visco fuse
Buying, possessing, shipping, and receiving visco fuse is not allowed in the Netherlands. If you bought this fuse and did not know it was illegal, the police urge you to hand it in to avoid further problems.
There is no legal alternative to visco fuse. However, as a lighter webshop, we always recommend using fireworks products in their original state and according to the instructions. For extra safety, you can always buy a long lighter to increase the distance from the fireworks.
